NAVY SEALS

It is a common misconception that the SEAL mission is limited to waterborne operations.  The acronym SEAL stands for Sea, Land and Air and only hints at the diversity of a SEAL platoon.  As you will see in my photo gallery, a SEAL is as comfortable jumping out of a plane or patrolling through a forest as he is participating in winter operations, jungle warfare or urban infiltration...

A SEALs platoon is revered as the most versatile, dangerous and effective combat unit in the entire worlds armed forces!

SEALs are proficient at close quarters combat (CQB) and routinely train for anti-terrorism and hostage rescue.  Shown left, a couple of  SEALs from Team II in full CQB gear: MP-5, 92-F, Vests, flame retardant flightsuits and masks to remain anonymous. At right: a mock ship takedown. Training to re-take a ship taken by hostile or to gain control of enemy vessels.

This is NOT a typical scene.  SEALs are rarely seen in their dress uniforms.
Pictured here is SEAL Team II 4th platoon on the fantail of of an LSD
somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea.  (I'm the one on the far right)

We are familiar with most of the worlds weapons and train with them often.  Here I am getting to know a Russian AK 47.  A very cool and effective weapon.  One of my favorites.

This was kinda cool.  Most SEALs hate being on a ship, me included.   However watching this refueling operation in the Mediterranean Sea was a definite trip.

Live Fire Training. 4th Platoon SEAL II.  To keep it real and to boost our level of proficiency, we would train with live ammunition.  Not on a safe, secure shooting range, but out in the woods or a field somewhere.   There is nothing like the sound of live rounds buzzing by your head as you are sprinting across a field with 16 men beside you.

Insertion be boat is only one way the SEALs operate.  In teams of four to six, full combat ready SEALs will use Zodiac inflatable to transport them to the objective area.

The Trident.  The symbol of a Navy SEAL.  He who wear's it does so with pride.  He who doesn't has no fucking concept of how hard it is to attain!

SEALs never leave anyone behind!

The SDV - 'SEAL Delivery Vehicle'  This is an underwater Mini-sub for carrying a complement of SEALs to their objective area.  Not a very fun ride, however it is a very effective combat tool for waterborne insertion.

The old 'Dog and Pony Show'  Routinely we would put on a show for either the general public at some sort of event or for high ranking Officers from DC that wanted to see what we could do and have a little fun.  We'd dress to show our diversity.  Shown here we have:  winter warfare, combat swimmer, desert and jungle warfare, sniper, high altitude skydiver and an anti-terrorist.

Beach Secure!  Classic photo of a SEAL coming on to a beach.  If you're a Marine, SORRY...  We are always there FIRST!
A  part of the SEAL mission is to do beach surveys prior to Marine landings to ensure they don't run into any nasty underwater obstacles, bobby traps or impassable beach terrain.  The Marine Recon Team also does a good job of this task, in all fairness!
